Carl Helmuth – Our Faith is Verbal Not Visual
By: Carl Helmuth
Series: (All)
Our Faith Must Be Built On…Hearing and Not Seeing
Therefore, our faith is based on hearing
Not on seeing
We worship a God who has done all that
is needed to satisfy His own requirements
Therefore, our faith is based on
knowing Him and all He has done
Not on anything we do
Our “doing” is the fruit of our faith
Not the “root” of it

- We think there is a step-by-step plan, system, strategy, scheme, blueprint, method, for “walking by the Spirit”
- We think “walking by the Spirit” should come naturally…and feel just like walking by the flesh
- We think that since our flesh has been crucified and made dead…that means that it is powerless
- We think “walking by the Spirit” means He does all the work…I should be able to “let go” and let Him...
- We think “walking by the Spirit” is something we do alone and on our own

- The power of knowing the scriptures - Paul used this OT narrative with gentiles as though they already knew it
- The sovereignty of God (even in the sins of men) - Paul used this illustration as though God intended for Hagar/Ishmael to exist
- The innocence of evil - How innocent the compromise with Hagar must have seemed to A & S
- The facade of slavery - It is deception that makes slaves seem free, and free men seem like slaves
- The call to be sons of the free woman (Sarah) - Only those born twice through the promise of God are truly free
- The call to fight the Ishmael within us - We have a first-born enemy within us that is hostile to our second-born self
- The call to expect hostility - Those who rely on man’s efforts will always be hostile to those who are of grace

- It shows me what sin is
- It arouses sin in me
- It teaches me of the holiness of God
- It declares all sin as rebellion against God
- It proves that no man can be saved by his efforts
- It condemns me to death
- It leads us to repentance
- It points me to Christ who is the fulfillment of the Law
- It teaches me the extreme value of God’s mercy

Aug 18, 2019Carl Helmuth – Galatians – Galatians 2 We Live By FaithBy: Carl HelmuthSeries: GalatiansGalatians – Galatians 2 We Live By FaithWhat is meant by: “We Live By Faith”?
-
Faith has an object - We have faith in Christ - Faith is not some power or ability that we possess
-
Faith is living in God’s reality – not ours - Faith is about the doctrine of imputation
-
Faith rightly orders love - Faith causes us to love created things properly
-
Faith is our sight - Faith in God’s truth is the spiritual eyes for the believer
-
Faith is power - Faith is the engine that powers us to obedience
-
Faith always looks to the future - Faith is all about living for the future while yet in the present

Aug 4, 2019Carl Helmuth – Galatians – Galatians 2By: Carl HelmuthSeries: GalatiansGalatians – Galatians 2Three Clarifications of Justification:
- All religions seek justification in one of two ways - by the work and effort of man - by the work and effort of God
- Justification is a work of God - it is the opposite of condemnation - it is being pardoned for all sin and guilt - it is being declared legally righteous and accepted
- Faith is the only instrument for justification - faith in Jesus Christ - it is Christ who saves us – faith places us in Him

Jul 28, 2019Carl Helmuth – Galatians – Galatians 1By: Carl HelmuthSeries: GalatiansGalatians – Galatians 1
- The gospel is about a rescue mission - it is about what Christ has done for you - the truly saved will praise Him generously
- Expect a lifelong need for diligent discernment - we have an enemy who always distorts truth
- It is WHAT you believe that is important - not just how sincerely you believe it
- In your life you will have to take a stand for Christ, and against men
- God reveals Christ to me so that He might be revealed in me

Jun 16, 2019Carl Helmuth – The Whole Counsel of God – Jacob’s WivesBy: Carl HelmuthSeries: The Whole Counsel of GodA Journey Through the Old Testament - Jacob's WivesIrreversible Truths of the Law of Sowing and Reaping
- Whatever a man sows, he will reap
- The kind that we sow is the kind that we will reap
- The law of S&R is both negative and positive
- We reap MORE than we sow
- Sowing is reactive – it is responding to a desire
- When we sow to the flesh, we are deceived
- We reap in proportion to how much we sow
- Sowing and Reaping are in different seasons - reaping comes in God’s appointed season
- The cross is proof that the law of S&R is fixed
- The Gospel does not remove the law of S&R - it switches the roles of the sower and reaper - we reap what Christ has sown - He reaped what we have sown
- God uses the law of S&R to discipline His children
- We reap a harvest of “fruit” - fruit has seed which will start S&R over again
